Opportunities for Students and Early Career Professionals

Current Mentorship Opportunities

Lunch and Learn with a GIS Professional, Fall 2025

The intention of this program is to introduce students interested in GIS careers to GIS professionals working in their field of interest. Some goals we hope to achieve include:

  • Connecting young GIS professionals to potential career-long mentors, internships, and post-graduate opportunities.
  • Connecting GIS professionals to students interested in their line of work.
  • Increasing the involvement of GIS students and education programs in the CTGIS Network.

How it will work: This is intended to be a one-time commitment for volunteer mentors to meet with students to discuss their current position and GIS career path. However, volunteers and students are welcome to remain in contact if they would like. Volunteer mentors and students will be asked to fill out an interest form, and the coordinator will make an effort to pair students with similar career interests to volunteers in that career. Meetings are not expected to last for more than 45 minutes, and can happen virtually or in-person (the coordinator can set up virtual meetings if needed).

Tentative timeline:

September 2025: Call for volunteers and call for student interest.

October 2025: Volunteers and Students are paired together and have their meeting.

December 2025: Coordinator reaches out to volunteers and students for feedback.
